The Problem
A British manufacturer had responded to requests for re-design during manufacture of two large machines going to “Motor City” (Detroit).  Unfortunately this had made the project late, but the US car industry doesn’t like to wait – so it had to catch up and still be delivered on time.  How to do this?

The Solution
Having realised that the only way was to hire a plane just for the job (as the machines were too big to fly on any normal aeroplane) we had to get agreement for the massive additional cost.  If a car production line is slowed down, we were told that the cost would be much greater; so we had the go-ahead to hire a Russian Illushiun 76!  In the meantime the packing had to be quick and delivery to the aircraft timely.  The photos show the loading operations at Stanstead Airport.

The Outcome
Relieved UK customer not having to pay damages for a late shipment and by keeping their US customer happy, secured another shipment which also went this way.
