In The Spotlight: Mark Logan

Mark Logan

For the fifth week of our In The Spotlight series of interviews, we’re talking to Mark Logan, a Compliance Manager at John Pipe.

What’s your role at John Pipe – and what does it involve?

I’m a Compliance Manager at our Poole branch. I do anything that my Managing Director doesn’t want to do. Actually, my role has changed in recent years from being the Operations Manager for the Poole site to my new role, where I now look after the compliance areas of the business from IT to Health & Safety. In addition to all that exciting stuff, I get to spend a lot of time with our customers to understand their packing and case making requirements, often visiting their sites to measure items for packing and discussing which solutions would work best for their applications. I in turn would liaise with our teams both at Poole and Chandlers Ford who then do all the brilliant case making and packing services in the professional and efficient manner that customers have come to expect for John Pipe.

Before working at John Pipe – what was the most interesting or unusual job you’ve had?

Delivering papers on my round in all weathers as a youngster was where it all started for me, those were the days. I’ve been a dog handler in security, built showers in a Mozambique refugee camp, and was a football referee at an indoor sports centre. Working with a team in the RF and Telecoms industry largely responsible for building the large antenna structures used when the country switched from an analogue to a digital TV signal (you’re welcome) has been a particular favourite of mine.

How long have you been working for John Pipe?

A little over 9 years.

What would you say is your favourite part of the job?

The trust and support I’m given to do my job is immense. Being allowed back every day is also a bonus

How would you describe John Pipe in 3 words?

Yes we can.

What’s the most memorable thing you’ve packed at John Pipe?

One project saw the entire company from directors, admin and warehouse team working through to 10pm one night to pack and assemble hundreds of odd shaped products into large cardboard containers as a kit. It was great to see the teamwork and everyone giving of their free time and pulling together to achieve a particularly tight deadline. The true essence of what John Pipe International is all about.

What’s a movie quote that you really like?

Ye dropped yer rock. – William Wallace in Braveheart.

What’s your favourite vacation that you’ve been on?

Family holiday to Majorca.

What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
